Chennai: Music meastro A R Rahman has said that he would undertake a fast in Chennai on January 20 to press the demand for lifting the ban on Jallikattu. The South Indian Film Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam) also said its members would observe a fast on January 20 to press the demand.

Rahman announced his decision on Twitter on January 19. "I'm fasting tomorrow to support the spirit of Tamilnadu!" he tweeted.

The Nadigar Sangam said it will observe a day-long hunger strike on Friday to express solidarity with youngsters protesting against the ban on Jallikattu.

"This is to express our solidarity for all those who have been protesting on the ground for the last two days," actor Ponvannan, a member of the Sangam said.

He added that all members of Producers Council, Directors Association and Film Employees Federation of South India were also invited.

"We really hope the Centre speeds up legal action and allows the conduct of Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu," Ponvannan said.

Traders have also announced their decision to down the shutters on Friday to support the movement for Jallikattu.
